"Pros: Hotel staff - They were very attentive and fabulous Location - Right in the heart of the city. Blocks from North Beach, Fisherman's Wharf and Chinatown. Cons: Street noise - the nights of my stay they were doing construction on a new building next door. Television - not a big deal but the TV in my sweet had to be from 1990. Overall I would definitely stay in this hotel again."

"This hotel was one block from chinatown 4 blocks from Little Italy ( north beach neighborhood ) and 7-10 blocks from the wharf. We also stayed at another very nice hotel that was ranked even higher than this one in the shoping district. For the money and location I will always come back to the Hilton. Everything was in walking distance...a huge plus! We went to San Fran to see the citys attractions... not to shop! I can do that at home."

If you need help planning a day we highly recommend Joel at the Concierge Desk. Take Mr. Toads City Tours (especially the night tour) you will not regret it. "I really wanted to like this hotel but the staff makes it so hard.
My shortlist of complaints:
-- The bathtub drain is clogged, one of my pet peeves about hotels because one shouldn't have to stand ankle-deep in water while taking a shower.
-- Our towels all disappeared one day, with no reason, and it took two calls to get them back.
-- They cleaned the windows one morning without warning anyone that there would be someone peaking in your window at 7 a.m.
-- The "free" breakfast for luxury-level guests is meager, and the staff pushes you to "upgrade." That can be confusing, especially if you are used to no-cost hotel upgrades like a better view. In my case, someone in my party said "yes" to the upgrade and was surprised when handed a bill for $10.
-- The concierge recommended going to a restaurants that does not exist, and I couldn't figure out if he just lied or if it had changed names.
-- As others have said, valet parking is now $54 a night. There is a public lot across the street but it has limited hours, so if you are coming late or leaving early you should not part there. The hotel has a self-parking option, hidden around the corner. I do not know the price but surely it must be less than $54 a night.
Overall, this is a great location, on the edge of Chinatown, the financial district and North Beach, and there are many good restaurants in walking distance and the hotel is easy to find and has each access onoff the interstate. Unless you get a good price -- and I mean a really good price -- you probably would be happier somewhere else.
In my case, I might stay there again on business because of the location and because I am not very demanding. I would not stay there again if traveling with anyone because the disappointment. The multiple problems hung over a three-night stay, tarnishing an otherwise great vacation."

"We liked it, but there were a couple of things we didn't expect, such as the noise level. There was some sort of compressor that ran almost constantly outside our room. With single pane windows, there really is no way to get away from it. Whenever you open your room door and find complimentary ear plugs on the night stand, it's not a good sign. The beds were a bit small for "doubles" but were comfortable. Prices in the hotel are very high for fooddrinks, so check out the restaurants nearby. We picked it for the location, which was fantastic. China Town, Union Square and the Wharf are very close. Perfect for our two days in SF. Take a town car back to the airport. The price is the same as a cab and it's much nicer. Overall, it's very nice. We'd go back, but ask for a room away from the noise."

Check-in clerk says booking on line for a non-smoking room is only a request and does not guarantee a smoke-free room. It was very fustrating, especially when my room and the floor just reeked of smoke. That day was very upsetting, especially since I'm in San Francisco to run the Marathon. The following day, they did move me to a smokefree room and that room was fine."

Front desk staff was great, but one Conceirge was worthless and I would not apporach them again for anything including such simple tasks as to find the breakfast area to the left of them. I think this is a great weekend stay, would stay again, superb location, but if you have questions, talk with the front desk and not the Conceirge and hopefully they will do away with this service in theis hotel soon and quit wasting the guests time and effort to have a conversation with them."

"Well this place sure had several mixed reviews but overall my stay here was really good. Seems as if the majority of the reviews focused on noise, small rooms, and slow elevators. I'll break down the review with these three first, since these all seem to be common themes Rooms:
I found the rooms to be rather nice, clean, and were just the perfect size for me. I am not sure what else someone wants as far as space goes but the room was perfect size. They had a large desk area, one computer chair as well as a small chair with ottoman, and they also had a small love seat. My room had a standard TV, not flat screen, but to me this is not a problem. The bed and pillows were super comfy and were feathered. The bathroom was simple but the Toilet had some odd flushing issues which was a pain. The shower was simple, no rolling doors just a curtain. Overall the room is clean, big enough, and was in great shape. Noise:
I stayed on the 18th floor and could hear street noise with my windows closed. But honestly this did not create an issue with falling asleep. Its the city people, did you expect to not hear street noise? LOL I was woken up once by some people yelling outside but quickly went back to sleep. My overall feeling on the noise issue is this, not really an issue. This is what happens when you stay in a city and honestly the majority of the hotels have this issue. Some newer, with dual pane windows might not, however this did not bug me what so ever. There were also some complaints about staying near the elevator and vending machines. My room was not near them but to be fair I could see how this would be loud. The vending machine's were pretty loud and I could see that sound traveling into the rooms next to them. My advice, ask to not be placed by them! Elevators:
I read a lot of complaints about slow elevators but I really had no problems what so ever. I could see maybe a busy weekend or something holding up some of the elevators but overall they were quick enoug"

"The hotel certainly met our lodging expectations for the price paid. Location was fairly central, in the heart of the city. Previous reviews cited discourteous staff, but I found nearly all employees to be helpful and pleasant.
I would watch-out for the unbelievable daily parking fees, with no inout privileges. Park across the street for $2 an hour. Also, beware of the lounge...two cocktails came out to $45 with tip. Room service has costly additions such as a fixed ($2.50?) delivery fee and an 18% surcharge. Read the small print."

If you should want a scrambled egg and a spoonful of hashbrowns, that will run you an extra $5. I find $21 for a Continental Breakfast to be absolutely ridiculous in San Fran or anywhere.
