Best place ever...many fond memories! he fabulous soaking tub in the fabulous room(s)! (Along with the little toy whale ((or was it a dolphin?))...watching the sunset over the beach while having cocktails at the pool...watching the sunrise while sippin...g coffee on the cute room balcony...renting a convertible at LAX and driving to Shutters with the top down and Sheryl Crow blaring "Until the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard"...running down to the lounge the night David Letterman came back in from hosting the Oscars...the fabulous food...(and the list goes on!). Oh yes -- and the fabulous sheets -- heaven! :-)

I used to coordinate meetings & events for my company. No matter what our budget was Shutters was always able to accommodate it without skipping on quality or abundance. I just love it here - And now my family, friends and I enjoy Shutters on a personal level for gatherings and such. Once inside I'm transported to another world and I am happy.

Shutters on the Beach is a Fabulous Beach style high-end hotel. Loved it there in room 309--a great view to the pool and outdoor fireplace with hearth and all. Had great poolside food service, enjoyed the piano entertainment in the lobby, and had long oceanside walks....What a dreamy place to be!

I really miss this place. "Shutters on the Beach" is a classic beauty, always surprising and satisfying. I think Perrier-Jouet is or was their house grape, and what a grape. I do not know what it is now. Have not been for a while. Absolutel...y one of my faves for eating on the beach.

"Nice room, good facilities but small considering the price we paid for a full Ocean view. The staff were courteous but the service was very average - we ended up carrying our own bags to our room when no-one offered to help! The hotel is fine but for the money we would go next door to Casa Del Mar....

"Shutters was the first hotel we stayed in, at the beginning of a 2-week holiday in California, and it is still my favourite! It is fresh and new, while still managing to steer clear of dreaded modern minimalism! It has a fantastic location right on the beach, and the most beautiful decor - even on the outside, the wooden terraces...

"It's a beautiful hotel in a stunning location, everything works the staff are very attentive and helpful, but it is very expensive so i suppose it should work.
You do feel really pampered and looked after and it is really special but I'm not completly convinced it was worth the expense.

"We spent the last three nights of our West Coast holiday at Shutters and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The location is beautiful and the ambience far more intimate, stylish (and expensive) than its sister hotel Casa del Mar, next door. The rooms are beautifully decorated and furnished, although slightly on the small side. We had a very relaxed dinner at...

"Unfortunately when we stayed their pool and I guess some other things were undergoing renovations so it was too noisy to sit on the blcony and enjoy the view and ambiance. Also didn't use the pool although they offered the one next door, but it wasn't the same as being able to enjoy that convenience. They did upgrade our room however I guess because of the inconveniencs and noise from constuction.
The service personnnel went out of their way to be helpful and informative, The room and it's convieniences were wonderful and the view spectacular."

"OUTSTANDING! There is not one thing that I can say about Shutters on the Beach that is not wonderful! Everyone, and I mean absolutely everyone was very kind, helpful and personable. We did not want to leave. The owners should be very proud of their accomplishment of such a wonderful resort and staff. We are counting the days until our next visit. Lisa,Steve, and Drake"

"Shutters is a great spot for a wedding. I've been a wedding photographer for many years and just love the way shutters looks in print, my couples love it and it makes a great setting for a beautiful wedding. I highly recommend shutters and suggest you visit their locations before making a choice."

"I was given a $900 giftcard to Shuttersused it to spend the weekend there with my 8 yr old daughter on 629. I should have sold the giftcardstayed somewhere else. I think Shutters gets high ratings because of the lack of options at the beach, not because of its excellent standards of service. If you want to be at the beach, stay somewhere where they are more courteous professional. Don't stay at Casa Del Mar-it's the sister hotel of Shuttersis equally disappointing. Now, I may have high expectations, but I feel that when you stay at hotels such as Shutters, you want to relax feel catered to (at $600 a night, I don't feel like that's a lot to ask). But I encountered numerous problems during my stay there. 1st-the valet staff is extremely discourteous. I invited 2 girlfriends to have lunch with me at the hotel. The 1st to arrive, a housewife driving a Honda with a 2 month old infant crying in the back was told to "Go find street parking" because she was "not a guest of the hotel" - when she explained she was visiting a guest they told her it didn't matter. She was unable to find other parking had to turn around go home. My 2nd friend to arrive (only 5 minutes later), a model driving a nice Cadillac sports car, was fawned over and welcomed by valet. Then, on the day I checked out, valet did not bring my car for 21 minutes. When they finally did, they didn't bring it to me, they parked it off to the side ran off with my keys. When I asked why they did that could I please have my car, the manager yelled at me that they were busy that I had not been standing there (which was a lie). I was forced to call the front desk and ask them to come outside sort out the problem. Last, I handed the gift card in upon checkout was told their "system was down" so I had to leave it there. 2 days later, I saw that the entire amount had been charged to my credit card none of the gift card had been applied. Management still has not resolved the issue are impossible!"

"I got married here and it was beautiful. Honestly though, planning the wedding was a little difficult. I felt as though the wedding planner was a bit curt and it made me very uneasy, it was my wedding I was planning, a HUGE deal. I think she should have been a little warmer. But it turned out to be the most wonderful night of my life. If you marry here, get the seafood display for cocktail hour. It will impress the heck out your friends and family. The best part is, you need not decorate, you save a fortune in flowers etc...because the backdrop is the beach. My friends and family still talk about it! It was really my "dream" wedding through and through. Everything I could have ever imagined, including a drunk as hell father of the bride!"

"Nice but: Way overpriced. Rooms were nice enough, in fact very nice. But, to have to pay for a beach chair when spending over $400 night? Give me a break. Also, the Pedals cafe? Had breakfast there. 4 people, pancakes and coffee, $88. $16 for 3 panckes, really pretty outrageous. Nice location, nice room, probably would opt for somewhere else next time."

"The Scene The idea was to replicate the comfort and understated elegance of a 1920s oceanfront resort, without the pretentiousness (hence the lobby's giant, earthy fireplaces and plush slipcover couches). Since opening in 1993, Shutters has proven to be the hotel backbone of what some call the revitalization of Santa Monica. Dozens of first-rate shopping and dining destinations are within walking distance on Main Street and Montana Avenue. The Details From the shuttered doors to the yellow-striped awnings, the mood here is historic beach-side California. White-paneled walls contrast the mahogany furnishings inside, while deck chairs pepper the outdoor lounging areas. A few museum-quality artworks are displayed, the most recognizable of which are beach-themed lithographs by David Hockney and Roy Lichtenstein. Other amenities include full-service spa, fitness center, business center and swimming pool."
