"Wanted to go shelling on Sanibel for some time and found a good deal for four days during the second week in December. At night Christmas scenes are lit up and lights up the palm trees! We had good luck with Holiday Inn in the past and this particular resort had good customer reviews. We were not disappointed. First of all, the temperature ranged from the 70s to low 80s. Perfect! The Holiday Inn has to be the prettiest resort on Sanibel with tropical theme both on the exterior and in the room itself, instead of being a boring, bare bones corporate cookie-cutter. The property is very well maintained and the room in particular was neat, clean, and sunny with the light blue and yellow painted walls. The room had a microwave, small refrig., ironing board, and hair dryer. The grounds are covered with tropical vegetation and there must be 100 palm trees! If you're shelling or walking on the beach, you can always find your way back by heading for the cluster of palm trees. There are plenty of lounge chairs for the beach, including cabana chairs for suntanning without the sun in your eyes, and a couple of hammocks strung between palm trees. There is a tennis court, swimming pool, and bicycles to rent (the island has bike paths from end to end) but we did not use these. The staff was helpful and friendly, giving us a booklet with menus from the islands resraurants and another that contained tide charts, and even gave us directions to a couple of Ft. Myers locations that we wanted to visit. We ate breakfast twice at Courtney's, the resort restaurant. The food was good and very reasonably priced. We will eat dinner there the next time we visit. We will definitely"

"My family and I stayed here for a couple of days. It's a nice place, looks charming, but it's a bit too pricey for the services it offers. It's really just an average beach hotel. The rooms are clean, but they are not as spacious as they are made to seem in their promotional materials. The pool is nice, but not very big. There's access to the beach in the back. They have lounge chairs and hammocks for their customers. It's nice, but not luxurious. The hotel's restaurant is okay. The vending machine, for example, was not working and we had to go to the main office to get water. The food was good, but also too pricey. It's nice that they give children under 12 free food, but they kind of charge you for that on the adult meals. They also add 18 percent tip to the bill -- which pretty much doesn't give you the option to reward them if they treat you right. However, they were corteous. So, to sum it up -- it's nice, but they take advantage of their location at the beach to charge a little bit above their league."

However, except for the hotel restauant, there is nothing within walking distance in the way of shopping or dinning. You can tell when a hotel is well managed, and this one is. We were impressed that there were things like free beach chairs, free towels for the beach and pool, ping pong table, a "shell sink" outside for washing your finds, etc. Staying on the beach always means tracking sand into the rooms, but housekeeping did a great job of de-gritting the floor each day. The room was standard motel size....a bit crowded for for two adults and child. Rooms are equiped with a hairdryer, coffee maker, small refrigerator, and microwave."

Only one was available at our arrival and was being cleaned. Shortly after 3 pm we were given key to look at the room. The room was actually a "pool-side" room on 1st floor, opening not to a "gulf-view" but a swimming pool deck. No patio or balcony to speak of - right to pool edge. The "gulf-view" consisted of children romping in the pool, followed by persons lounging on a large pool deck then finally some palm trees and eventually the beach. By standing at the entryway, waiting till some bathers moved out of your way, bending and or craning your neck, you can see the beach. Beware!"

The room at the Holiday Inn was very tiny, perfect for two. We paid extra to be poolside but that was a mistake, any one of the rooms would have been just fine. The staff was super nice, loved the guy who checked us in, everyone was very friendly. The bartender at the tiki bar was a bit uptight - no smiles, no eye contact. We were very happy with our stay except for the bed...extremely hard king size bed. Ugh. My back still aches from it!"

"Really wonderful spot-right on a great sandy beach. Salt water pool was heated to just the right temperature. Rooms are alittle small but nice TV, refrig., microwave, toaster, coffe maker. Nice island with great spots to eat and shell."

"Booked this mid winter get away on-line for my Husband and Me, not sure what we were getting into. Island and Hotel far better than we expected. Hotel was much nicer than the photos looked, great beach access, fabulous shelling. Staff was very helpful, rooms were very clean and offered a refrigerator and mircowave, in room coffee, all unexpected extras. Hotel offered the basics which was fine with us as we were not in the room very much. We did not eat at restaurant or Tiki Bar or use the pool, but enjoyed the complimentary chaise lounge chairs on the beach and beach towels. Outdoor table tennis was fun! Hotel is small and very quiet, lovely gardens and very well kept grounds. It was easily accessible from the main road, but tucked in away from the traffic and congestion. Close to many restaurants and we enjoyed cruising the Gulf Drive in our convertible (worth the extra money if you rent a car). This trip far exceeded our expectations, everything went smooth (except airlines lost my luggage). Would Highly Recommend this Holiday Inn and online travel."

"First time to Sanibel. Loved the island!!! Will definitely return to SanibelCaptiva. Grounds of Holiday Inn exceeded expectations. Gardens were really pretty and well maintained. Beach location fantastic--free chairs for sunning were added plus...also outdoor ping-pong table...hammocks..outdoor shower to rinse off. Pool area was convenient... a little outdated but appeared clean and organized. Tiki bar had expensive and horrible tasting drinks (bottom shelf liquor). Room was small and needed updating and better cleaning. Our room had some kind of infestation with fruit flies..coming in and out of walls. Left daily tips for cleaning staff and did mediocre job at best..one day didn't even wipe off red wine stain on countertop. Was extremely convenient to have microwave, refridgerator, hair dryer, saftey deposit box all in room. They also provide a crib for our 20 month old son. My parents room next door seemed in better shape than ours...not as run down...cleaner...and no fruit flies. Would stay again if no other optionsavailability. However, next time around we will try renting cottagescondos. Shelling was fantastic...got our picture in the paper for finding a junonia shell. :-)"

"We picked this hotel off the internet and did not know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised! The hotel was a great deal for the money we paid. Our room was good sized and was clean. There were plenty of towels including towels for the pool. The pool and Tiki bar were nice. The beach was the greatest beach I have ever seen for collecting shells. Going out at low tide was the best time to collect. Staff was friendly too. Will definitely be going back!"

"i have been vacationing on Sanibel for 30 years. i thought i would try the holiday inn as we were in a rush and did not have time to stay somewhere else. it was * for one night. the staff was very nice. but the hotel is dumpy, the cement all around the pool was cracked , there were huge mounds of ants everywhere on the pool deck, no one is taking care of the place. the room was dirty i took the stained dirty sheet off, and slept with the cover on the reverse side. the bathroom looked as if no one had really cleaned it. the floor was dirty. the place need a complete renovation, it is very dingy. i would have left if i wasn't so tired. the only good thing is it is right on the beach. but there are plenty of other places much nicer. i would never stay there agin i felt as if there was bedbugs. it was also musty like they never clean the rugsi was very suprised that they get away with this. i will complain to the chamber of commerce on the island if there is one."
