"Do not expect this hotel to be like a 5 star hotel - it isn't but the price isn't either! We had a great room on the ninth floor. We got a free upgrade to an ocean front room, which had a fantastic view of the beach and the pier. The room was bigger than our friends room, which was also on the ninth floor but was an ocean view room. The employees were all nice and helpful. The bathroom was bright and clean, and although there wasn't an outlet in there, there was one right outside the bathroom in a vanity area with a big mirror, so I didn't have to worry about a steamed up mirror from the shower while I was blow-drying and putting on make-up. We also saved on the valet fee by parking for free on the road right in front of the zoo.(drive past the hotel towards the beach and make a left at the light and stay to the left) The hotel definitely could use all sorts of renovations, but then the price would reflect that! Ask for one of the more recently updated rooms on the 6th or 9th floor and you can't go wrong with this hotel!"

"I thought it was an awesome spot. Right between the beach and the zoo. The hotel room is clean and comfortable even if it is a little old. I just go there to sleep so it was perfectly fine for me. The Japanese restaurant on the first floor was spectacular. I ate there every day trying out different stuff and they usually give you a free appetizer. The only thing that I didn't like is that on weekends, the hotel next door plays very loud music at night. I can hear it loud and clear and I was on the 18th floor. Can't really go to sleep until after 12 am. overall, I am very satisfied."

"Room was simple, but clean. Would have been uncomfortable with more than one person. Don't recommend using this hotel if you have a car. I was fortunate to use the parking lot across the street and saved the $20.00 a day parking. Also think charging a dollar a day for coffee is a little over the top since hotel amenities are non-existent. Would have been unhappy had I paid more per night than I did. Bed was comfortable. Hotel obviously is used hard and really needs an upgrade."

The biggest complaint we have was just that we didn't know about the mandatory valet parking, with the associated daily fee (it would have been nice to have planned for that). All in all, we loved it, and we would definitely stay there again. :)"

"The location is great! If you are looking for just a cheap place to stay for a few nights, this is it. The bathroom has a lot to be desired. Felt very dirty. None of the electrical outlets worked in the bathroom area We called maintenance everyday for 3 days but it was never fixed. We had one outlet by the bed to charge camera batteries, cell phones, dry or curl your hair - with no mirror, and use the coffee pot. A little inconvenience. The lobby is beautiful - don't let that get your hopes up for the room. We were "upgraded" to a room with the view of the ocean - there was a large air conditioning unit out our window, if you could see above the AC unit, you could see water. I wouldn't want to spend an entire week there - it is not real comfortable, but a few days, if you're looking for cheap, is fine. The person at the desk to help plan excursions was not helpful. Do some reading on your own before you go. The hours that they are available to book things is only during the day, when you are already off doing something else. So plan well in advance. The restaraunt was very good, not overly priced for burgers etc, large portions - easily could've been shared by two - and a nice ocean view. The location again is a great place to catch the buses for trips - only a short walk to the other end of the block. If you are using a cab to get back to the airport, call ahead (the guy in the lobby will make the arrangements for you) they were very late picking us up - almost missed our flight."

"I loved the location of the hotel -- right on the corner of Kalakaua (main "strip" in Waikiki) and Kapahulu, a great road into Honolulu... Close to the beach, Diamond Head and the farmer's market. With so many awesome places to eat like Leonard's, Ono Seafood, Ono Hawaiian Foods, etc. It's easy to get in and out of the city from the location. However, our first room was pretty cramped and it was an "adjoining" room -- with the door that connected it to another room. ASK FOR A NON-ADJOINING ROOM! The doors are so thin that we could hear everything - literally - happening in the other room. We were awakened in the middle of our first night by the TV and then snoring of the person in the other room. The snoring was so loud I thought it was my husband at first! We asked to move, and that solved the problem, but I wish I would have known that going in. Also, our room was decently clean, but the bathroom could have been cleaner... Overall, a great value for the location."

"Would definitely stay here again. Very happy to receive and unexpected upgrade to an oceanfront room (booked ocean view). Stunning view of Diamond Head when standing in front of the door to our room and an amazing view of the beach and ocean from our balcony. Hotel staff was always friendly and very helpful. When our room key was somehow deactivated (minor glitch), the desk person escorted us up to our room, where the hotel engineer was already waiting for us - problem fixed in a matter of minutes. The Park Shore is obviously an older hotel that could use some upgrades, as I know the carpet in our room has seen better days, but for the money it was great. It was better than I had expected. They do charge $20 for valet parking, and do not offer a self parking option, but we didn't even have to use it. During the day we parked across the street in the zoo parking lot (.25hr. meters) and at night we parked on Kalakaua Ave. in front of the zoo. You may have to walk about a block back to the hotel, but it will save you $20. I wish I was sitting on that balcony right now! Aloha!!"

"We just returned from our stay at the Park Shore Waikiki. I was a bit worried when seeing some of the negative reviews just before leaving, but it worked out fine. Yes, it is true that the rooms are very small, but other hotels typically have similarly small rooms: the width of the hotel rooms are essentially the width of the balconies that you see on exterior photos. However, the room was just fine with good mattresses. We had booked "ocean view" and it was indeed a great view even though it was only on the 6th floor. They initially gave us a room on the 15th floor, but as soon as we entered the room we noticed that they gave us a room with a single kingsize bed instead of a room with two doubles (which we needed because we had our 13-year old son with us) so we got a different room right away. Some of the white paint on the furniture is a bit scuffed off, but apparently they will be renovating their rooms in a year from now (we heard that they had just started doing it now but given the economy, the remodeling was delayed by a year - who can blame them?). I don't mind furniture being scuffed off a bit as long as everything is nice and clean, and it was. The maid was very nice, and we were happy with the staff at the lobby as well.
By the way, while it's not advertised on their website, the hotel does provide towels for going to the beach or to the pool - so no need to pack beach towels!
Lulu's on the 2nd floor was a great place to have breakfast while enjoying the view of the beach. We also tried it for dinner one evening and enjoyed that as well.
The location of the hotel is great - right at the beach with plenty of nice shops and restaurants around."

Then the carpeting looks all worn out and the walls all marked up like someone had repeatedly ran into the walls with something black. The beds were comfortable, but the room needed updating. The room looked as if the room hadn't renovated since the sixties. The heaterair conditioner was ancient and we couldn't figure out how to use it.The carpet was all stained and dirty looking.
