We just stayed here this past weekend, during the Tsunami Warning. Things went very smoothly and we were so impressed with how the hotel handled this emergency situation. All the employees we came in contact with put us at ease and shortly after we got the all clear everything was up and running. We will definately be staying here again in the future. Btw, the breakfast buffet at ONO's is Awesome!! :) Mahalo!

My husband and I are coming on Friday to celebrate our 16th wedding anniversary. Who do I call/e-mail to get some flowers delivered to our room for my husband? I would like to prearrange it since doing it while we're there would be difficult to hide from my husband! :)

"The property is very beautiful, and there are a only a few people there that still understand what it means to work in a service industry. The housekeepers were all very friendly and professional as well. However, dealing with the reservation here was nightmare from the beginning, as they refused to give us a lower rate that they had offered less than a week after we had booked initially. The attitude we received during our stay was that we were there to serve the hotel staff, no the other way around. When we returned on day 2 with several bags from the supermarket, five bellmen were simply standing around and didnt even greet us or offer to help - not what I would expect for this type of price and a supposed 5 star hotel. Immediately when we arrived on day 1, exhausted from nearly 15 hours of traveling, it was clear that there was some type of sewage back-up residue in the tubs in both of our rooms. There was no immediate apology, and the only response was to send a maid to clean it. A manager arrived after a second call, who did move us to a different room, but only after we specifically requested. Again, this is what one might expect from a 2-star, $100 budget hotel, not from a Westin. More problems encountered with the hold placed on our credit card from room charges that weren't ours, and a front desk worker that tried to make up a reason for their existence, even though the math of his explanation was totally off. Stay at one of the other beautiful hotels; if we could do it over, we would have stayed at the Hyatt again - beautiful renovation there. Avoid Westin Resort for anything above $*night."

"The Westin is an above average hotel with courteous employees. Several employees went out of their way to help us including the bellmen and concierge. The hotel was very busy during our vacation (the week of Christmas) but we had a nice experience. I recommend that if you are a pool person that you reserve your chair(s) as soon as you wake up. By 8:00am on sunny days, all chairs are taken. This is annoying and I wish the hotel would implement some sort of policy that prohibits saving your seat and then leaving for hours while present pool visitors can't find an open seat. Another annoyance is that the hotel would not grant us a late check-out (most mainland flights leave at night, so you're still stuck at the hotel after you check out). They did, however, allow us to use a hospitality suite for 30 minutes to freshen up. The food was nothing special and was typical hotel fair."

"Have stayed at many Westins and the rooms in this one are way below par. They are very dated and dirty in spots. The front desk staff was not very friendly. The concierge staff was great except they push the timeshare presentation. This Westin does not reflect the normal Westin experience. The pools are nice except very cold and they don't allow children in the hot tub."

"We just got back from a beautiful week at this hotel in Maui. We have stayed there before so we know the hotel, and it is beautiful. Having said that. The housekeeping needs to do a little work. Our room was fine, but the bathroom could have used a real good cleaning. Also the shower curtain had a very strong mildew smell. They also failed to leave us a menu to order breakfast for all but one day. One other thing, if you like a firm bed wrong place to go. Now, I slept ok, but my husband had a very hard time. Would we give them another chance. Yes but I would check out the room before checking in."

"This hotel was wonderful. We would definetly stay here again. The atmosphere is just breathtaking. Our son loved the pool and slide area. When we arrived we reminded them that we needed a roll-away bed for our son as our room was an ocean view with a king size bed. Instead of having us cramped in the room due to the roll-away bed they upgraded us for free to a deluxe ocean view room that is bigger and has a pull-out queen size sofa bed - that was great! The staff was soooo friendly and if we needed anything they were very fast about bringing it to us. We ordered room-service several times and it was fast (only around 20 to 30 mintues). The only down-fall was the prices of the food - very expensive. The hotel restaurants and the restaurants next door to us at the Whalers Village were all expensive. Breakfast was like $25.00 per person, and the average cost of a meal for the three of us was like $85.00. But I think it is like that all along the resort area and the other hotels. Would we go here again - YES. Actually we are planning on going to Kauai next time and maybe stay at this same hotel out there."

"Loved this place! From the moment you arrive and are greeted warmly, see the waterfall and pond with flamingos and koi at the checkin area; the views even in the back of the hotel towards the golf course and mountains are spectacular--you don't need an ocean front room, you can see it from the lanai in the back of your room. The pool is great, a real extravaganda of connecting pools with waterfalls and slides. A kid's paradise, for sure, with the pools and parrots and macaws all over the place. The view of the ocean and the islands across the water are to die for especially the sunsets! The only thing at all to detract is the high prices of everything especially the restaurants there--very high! $30 for breakfast buffet for example, but there are more affordable places to eat right around the hotel including a small shopping center with a food court. You can choose to pay extra for a private cabana facing the ocean ($* for the day) but you get service including free water and pineapple all day long and can order food and drinks for a fee if you wish. The staff is great there, very friendly. We attended a Wayne Dyer conference while there and the meeting room was nice, comfy chairs to sit on, air conditioning was perfect. Overall, I recommend this hotel very very highly! We will be back again next year."

"This was a first time trip for my friend and I. I really didn't know what to expect, so I chose the Westin for its reputation. I decided on a partial ocean view and a 6 night stay. We could not have dreamed of a better view from the room - it was spectacular. The lobby area was fantastic too. Lots of shops (a bit pricey) a bar area right off the beach, a lunch and dinner area, etc. created a great atmosphere. If first impressions are important, then this place really made it in my book. Prices were reasonable for a 6 day stay in a place this nice. Try this place - you'll love it!"

"I am a single young thirty-something who booked a last minute trip to Maui one day and was on the beach the next. The Westin is fabulous. There are a lot of families. I spent most of my time on the beach in front of the Westin and never made it to their pool. The beach is lovely and very swimmable. Because the waves in HI tend to be gently surging, it may be difficult for a child to swim in the ocean. The service is fantastic. Bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to noise. All of the fountains and the birds in the morning can be loud. I enjoyed the fitness center. They even have a running route planned out for guests who want to leave the property. I had a facial at the spa - lovely! Save money and don't leave without visiting the spa. The resort is very clean. All employees are courteous and extremely cheerful. The Westin is definitely worth the money."

"We stayed at the Westin resort Friday-Tuesday. The rooms were very nice - excellent bed, a great place to relax. Also the shower was great - it had two shower heads. Housekeeping was very good (thorough, quick and non-obtrusive). The pools had a ton of kids at them (even the 'adult' pool), but for the most part it was okay. We did get approached for their timeshare properties on Maui, which was annoying. Valet parking service was excellent and greeters were friendly. Hotel is situated very well - near lots of shopping and restaurants at every price range."

Our ocean view room was fabulous--ate breakfast on the balcony every morning to enjoy the view. The room was great, pools beautiful, and the beach enjoyable. They had an adult pool which was great for relaxing without children. The facility was also very child friendly-nice mix. Only negative was the price of meals, but that is Maui!! All of the food that I tried was over priced and of a lower quality. We rented the cabana which I thought was worth the large amount of money that we paid. I would not stay there again. There are so many nicer palces to stay that cost less or an equal amount of money. It wasn't too great!"

"The best thing about the Westin Maui is the location and the staff. My family decided to stay here because of the pool area. The pool area was promoted as a hugh water entertainment area. The pool area was not the exceptional place is was promoted to be. There were multiple pools, not one huge one. The main pool area had two slides, both of which were too small for teens. The food, although it was very good, was extremely expensive, which is common throughout most places in Maui. The breakfast cafe next to the pond was unimpressive. The rooms are some of the smallest hotel rooms I have ever stayed in. My family required a roll away bed. We had to push the beds to the walls in order to fit the roll away bed in between the two room beds. The result was wall to wall bed. The bathroom sink was in the sleeping area of the room, which made getting dressed without waking up everyone impossible. The beach and the location made the hotel tolerable. The room was clean, but the elevator and public areas needed some sprucing up. The elevator was very dirty, the hand rails were worn, most of the lights were not working. Definately not what one would expect of a hotel charging $500 and up for a room. WATCH out for the person who calls your room pretending to be a helpful concierge. The person is calling to get you to their front desk so they can give you an appointment time for a time share vacation presentation. I do not have any complaints about offering time share presentations, but I consider this a violation of my privacy as a hotel guest."

"This hotel is in a great location. The walking path along the beach offers a great way to get in a brisk walk or jog in the am and the path or beach is the perfect setting for a relaxing evening walk. There are very good restaurants and plenty of shopping within walking distance. The staff was always very helpful when we needed assistance or had a question. The valets never made us wait more than ten minutes when getting our car. The beds were comfortable it would be nice if they were queen size. The refrigerator in the room instead of a mini bar makes up for the rooms being on the small side and can get quite crowded for a family of four with older kids. There is not enough drawer space to unpack and store suitcases. Other than that we loved our stay and look forward to returning someday."

"This was a vacation we will never forget. Maui in itself is so beautiful, but the Westin resort Spa was fabulous. You almost forget there is an ocean behind you when relaxing by the pool. We went in January, it wasn't too crowded. On the hottest day about 90, staff came around w ice cold towels that were soaked in eucalyptus. I can't say enough about this place. The food and drinks especially the Lava Flow was to die for. The beds were so heavenly, staff was so polite and accommodating. I can't wait to go back. We spent 6 days in Maui and 4 in Waikiki. Forget Waikiki, Stay in Maui!!!! They also have a lift in the pool for those w disabilities. It was similar to the one I saw at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. Very impressed w their concern for the disabled."

The whole grounds were outstanding. The towel the beds were like heaven. Everyone treated us so nice. The next stay we got a room that wasn't all that great. We went to the front desk and they found us another room the next day and even moved all of out stuff to the room. The only kicker is this place is WAY expensive. Of course all of Maui is, but if I didn't use my Amex points there was no way I could have afforded it. If you have the money this is the place to stay!"

"Our family decided to take the vacation of a lifetime and travel to Maui. We selected this hotel after careful consideration amount several options on this beach on the island. We book several activities off property and they were wonderful as was the pool area of our hotel, however our room left much to be desired. First it was very SMALL.... We were on the 8th floor in the main building facing away from the ocean, and while the view was still very nice, it was very TIGHT ACCOMDATIONS for 2 adults and one 13 year old daughter. You almost could not walk in the room, and we had to move suitcases several times a day just to get around and gain access to our cloths (only had 3 cases). The bath area was mostly in the bedroom, with a small room with the shower and toilet that was ill lit and therefore hard to see when showering. The room was also very noisy. We never discussed our dissatisfaction with management probably because the few times we triied to get answers to questions about the island it was hard to get anyone's attention. Now we're thinking about maybe going back in the next few months and I'm pretty sure we will NOT stay here next time."

"If you stay in the center building, the rooms are very small and cramped. It appears that the rooms seem to be pretty old were just updated with some furniture and wall paper. If you leave the sliding door to the balcony open and close the screen, baby lizards will enter your room and I stayed on the eighth floor. The hotel staff didn't have an explaination of why we had roaches under the sink. I am talking about the smaller roaches that infest urban homes folks - it gave me a false sense that the room was actually clean. There were 4 times where my room was not cleaned until 5:00 pm. The Westin actually gave me a $180 credit because I could get refreshed in a dirty room and was not able to attend event at another hotel. I do admit that the food is great and that the hotel is in a great location for entertainment. The pool was fun."

"I hate to say this... but my honeymoon was a disappointment!: Maybe my standards were too high after staying at the Westin in Cabo San Lucas, but I was expecting nothing but the best service from the hotel staff. We received the opposite. We were told that, because we were celebrating our honeymoon, upon arrival our room would be upgraded and a bottle of champagne would be waiting for us. Instead, we received no upgrade, no champagne, and a front desk employee's complaints about her long and frustrating day. Normally I'm okay with people griping a little bit, but not when I've just traveled for 13 hours and I'm on the first night of my honeymoon. In addition, when I asked her to get me some change (so I could tip the bellboy) she said "I don't have any. Go talk to her." and pointed to another employee (who was busy) at the end of the counter. Completely unprofessional. Our room was directly across from the waterfall near the lobby and the sound was too loud for us to sleep. We asked for another room and were given a room with 2 twin sized beds (on our HONEYMOON!). I'll summarize the remaining 6 days by saying the following: Restaurants -- subpar. Ono Bar became known as "Oh NO". The lunch menus at all the restaurants were awful. Tropica was very good, the best part of our trip by far. All of the restaurants were overpriced though ($25each for breakfast buffet? Come on...). Service -- horrible. The poolside waitresses were unattentive and focused on 1 or 2 couples. I cringed every time I had to talk to someone at the front desk. The concierge service was decent, their recommendation to dine at the Plantation House was a big hit with my wife and I. In summary, stay somewhere else. The resort was overpriced, it was (surprisingly) crowded with kids, and the service was the worst I've ever received at a resort. I hear the Hyatt Regency on the same beach is very nice..."

(Just be sure you get out there early to reserve a lounge in the shade!) Rooms are comfortable and have lovely views. The location is perfect the beach is right across the path, and the Whalers Village is just a few steps away. What I loved best about the Westin was the relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be having such a great time! You are really able to leave all the stresses of daily life behind once you check in. If you are planning a trip to Maui, you HAVE to check out the Westin. You will love it!!!!"

"We stayed in room 389 from July 22nd until the 27th. When we entered the resort we had already had 2 positive experiences at the Surfrider in Waikiki and on the Pride of Aloha. All in all we had spent about * k and 3 weeks on this vacation and had been looking forward to it and planning it for about 8 months. We were also traveling with 2 other families who had spent that much or more. I have got to tell you we were SO unhappy with our stay! Here are a few reasons we thought you should be aware of: When we arrived we asked to be upgrading to a suite. (Our friends were) We understood that it may not have a water view and that we would have to pay additional. We were told someone would get back to us, no one ever did. The day after we arrived I told the front desk how dirty our floor and the elevators were..... This is what REALLY bothered me, poor service aside when you are paying $* a night you at the very least expect the common areas to be clean. I cannot believe I am even having to say this but THEY WERE NEVER CLEANED THE ENTIRE TIME WE WERE AT THE HOTEL!! There are children everywhere, is anyone assigned to keeping the elevators and common areas clean? It seems the answer is no. Every chance they get they are trying to sell you a time share. Staff was very rude. Walking down the hall we were told to get out of the way by a bell hop. The bottom line is this....if you go find a hotel that cares about you business and not one that is so crowded all year they can get away with whatever they want."

"We were a group of 4.. being my husband and I with a 16 and 17yr old. When we first arrived at the Westin we were very impressed with the lobby and how beautiful the place is. We upgraded to a larger room on the 4th floor with a view of the pool area and ocean and it was great! Was it worth paying that much a night for a room we were only in to sleep... not really. There were many things that we loved about the resort but our next trip to Maui we would prefer to spend that 6 to 7 hundred a night staying in a nice condo with more room and be able to cook a few meals. People aren't kidding when they say the food in Maui is amazing!! Kobe is a must as is Fish Co. on Front St. Before our trip I got an Entertainment book for Hawaii and saved tons on meals and excursions. We parasailed, took a power raft to Lanai, did the sunrise cycle down the volcano.. do the self paced so you can stop and go as you please. We also went to the Old Lahaina Luau and Ulalene(sp) and both were great! Overall it was the best vacation we have ever taken. We were very glad that the Westin was where we stayed for our first trip but will do some things different next time. One more tip,, rent a car and take the road north of Ka'anapali all the way around island to airport. It was a scary but beautiful drive and only took a couple of hours instead of the whole day Hana trip. We are counting down until wereturn to th wonderful place!!"

""This hotel is ideally located, beautiful and has great pools. The service could be improved; half of the staff was very friendly and the other half was dismissive. The standard hotel rooms are tiny! We had 2 adults and 2 kids and could barely fit into the room comfortably. Either plan to spend more and upgrade to a larger room or prepare to be cramped. We were hardly in the room so it was manageable.""

"Absolutely Awesome!!: Everything was absolutely first class at the Westin Maui and our family enjoyed every minute of our stay. Starting from the gracious lady who greeted us with gorgeous leis, servers, spa staff and room service. Our rooms were very comfortable and the heavenly beds were even better. We used emergency medical services, and the staff at the Westin Maui couldn't have been more efficient, caring and pleasant. We definitely plan to return (hopefully, sooner than later). Kudos to all of Westin Maui's staff. A big thank you to all of you."

"the westin maui: Great place for a family vacation. The open air lobby and waterfall start your visit the right way. Rooms are clean, beds comfy, and staff very accomodating. The pools are great (kids 3 and 9 loved the slides) And the beach is everything you could ask for. Restaurants a little pricey but lots to choose from with whaler's village next door. Would definately go again!"

"Simply the Best!: What did I like about the Westin? What is there not to like! The staff is very attentive to all your wants and needs. The hotel restaurants offer great food and service second to none. The pool area has no equal in the islands and a very good beach. The hotel itself is the reason, along with the closeness of golf, why we can't wait to return to Maui and the WESTIN!! John Pam Hakes"

"Pleasantly Surprised....: Jan 2007 - Just got back from a weeks stay at the Westin. Let me first start off by saying that we were so nervous about going to this hotel. We booked the hotel before we had read the online reviews and the reviews weren't good. The good news is that we had a great time. The hotel was clean and the room that we stayed in wasn't an ocean view but it was nice- 2 beds.. and yes, a little small but it's what we paid for and we were on the go the whole time. The hotel grounds are beautiful, several pools, water falls, incredible lush green plantsflowers, Koi, ducks, amazing views of the oceansunsets. We walked every morning and evening along a path by the ocean passing restaurants and other resorts- you can get fresh fruit and coffee (breakfast and more) but we just had fresh fruit, great 'hot' coffee at the Marriott just a quick walk a way they have tables overlooking the ocean and we would watch the whales every morning. Amazing! We hung out at the top pool, near the outdoor bar area- you can of course order drinks, fresh fruit, lunch etc. the service was wonderful. Everyone at the hotel was nice. We ate at the nearby mall again just next store and in Lahaina. Our experience was wonderful..the only complaint was the coffee at the hotel was cold. They store it in a thermos' so it's cold. There is a microwave that you can use to warm it but for $12 for 3 coffee's - it would have been nice to have it hot."

"LOVE this hotel: We just returned from 3 days at the Maui Westin after being on Oahu for a few days. The staff was off the charts nice, the location could not be better, the rooms are clean and hip, the bed is extremely comfortable and the property itself is gorgeous. I practically cried when we left. I would absolutely recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back someday. When we checked in they gave us a mt view room that was really a view of the hotel's roof. We went back to the front desk and asked for another room. They gave us a ocean view with no problem. (December is a slower time so I wouldn't expect that all the time, but the staff changed our room and upgraded us without any issue whatsoever) I would recommend this hotel to singles, married couples and families alike..there are options for everyone. I hope to be back very soon!"

"Awesome Honeymoon: The Westin Hotels in itself are spectacular and to add one of these in Maui is just that much more appealing and beautiful! My wife and I have never been out of the continental U.S., and for our 1st experience to be in Hawaii staying at a Westin, it was way more than we bargained for there. The pools are clean, the beaches are as smooth as glass and the dining is A. We got there and we had two double beds which we asked for a King and it was granted immediately since we were on our honeymoon. The staff was very motivated to help all your needs, excursions, and local eateries. We couldn't ask for anything more out of a hotel. I have been begging her to go back but we just can't afford to go back every year though if we could we definitely would...."

"Great Resort, Bad Kids Club: We got back from Maui a few days ago. We spent a week at the Westin had a good time. The pool and water slide are the best in Kaanapali, great for the kids and very safe despite having no lifeguards - only the area around the water slide is deeper than 4 feet, and the kids loved the fake waterfalls. Service was excellent. It was crowded you had to reserve a seat in the shade, but that's expected for the middle of July. The only bad experience we had was the Kid's Club. The brochure and website tell you it is an "educational, activity-filled time," but the day we were there (Monday) all they offered the kids was a copy of a word-search crayons and the TV was playing a Disney 'tweener movie. We came back to check in a half hour, then an hour, and our kids, 6 and 9, were still glued to the TV in that windowless room. We pulled our kids after an hour and a half, and cancelled our other Kids Club reservation. The attendant (who was eating from a McDonald's bag while watching the kids watch TV), said "It's great to see parents who want to spend time with their kids. Most parents just dump them off." Well, obviously, those parents thought their kids were getting that fabulous time promised by the hotel. They do give the kids a great backpack with goodies in it, so why would the parents think they would skimp on anything else? So, I would recommend the hotel, but don't excpect anything but custodial care from the Kids Club."

"starwood vacations suck: Booked a vacation package with Westin through Starwood Vacations in March of 2005 with a $300 down deposit with a year and a half to complete travel. In January of 2006 started calling to try and book a reservation during the summer as we have kids in school. Called at least 40 times over 5 months, no availability. When you try to contact Westin direct, everything is funneled through Starwood and their customer service reps really don't give a rip. They advertise "family packages". Ha---you'd better book your date a year and a half in advance or you can forget it. Bottom line...we'll be losing our $300 and I believe this is what they're counting on."

"Good location on Ka'anapali: My husband I liked the location of this hotel to the others on Ka'anapali, since it is right next to Whalers Village shopping restaurants. The "ocean view" room we had was right above the waterfall in the lobby entrance, which we could constantly hear - it's pretty loud! And if you read about the size of the rooms, it's true - they ARE very small! The parking lot isn't that big either the spots are tight, beware for lots of dings on car rentals!!!! We still enjoyed ourselves in Hawaii, the hotel was just a small part of our whole experience."

The hotel was simple beautiful. I cannot think of one thing that I would even begin to complain about. The staff was so friendly and helpful. The location, we found, was wonderful. We were in walking distance of other resturants and shopping areas. Our room had an ocean view and was kept absolutely spotless the entire time that we were there. The hotel would be great for families as well as honeymooners. I would definately give this 4 star hotel a 10!!"

"Great Location: The location of the resort was great. As resorts go, it was very nice. If I were to rate this just for the accommodations it was OK. The rooms are not worth the money; if all put together, location, resort, beach, etc... Then the cost is with in reason. Watch out for the "concierge even though they are very familiar with the area and will help with many things, I believe their main goal is to get you into the "Vacation Ownership" seminar. If convenience is what you are after, this is your place, which is why I would return"
