I've stayed at the W-Lakeshore and the W-New York on Lexington Ave. over the past two weeks. GREAT experience at the W-Lakeshore!! The highlight of the W-New York was the Acura Experience. The only issue I had at the W-NY was that the housekeeper left my empty glass sans the mojito which was in it the night before....then the next day..took it ... See Morebut left the next nights empty glass??? I put the second glass on his/her cart and he/she took BOTH glasses off and left them in the hallway for a day and a half???? hmmmmm....on the brighter side, cheers to the bartender, the Mojitos were the BEST!!!!

"I'll just do bullets becaude this could go forever if I wrote everything out: BAD: 1. Parking overnight is $48.00 2. Valet staff was hard to find at night. One actually made me feel bad. 3. I requested a non-smoking King room and they put me in a smoking room with two smaller beds. This was definitely wrong of them to do!!! I asked if they could at least give me free parking then and the answer was "NO". 4. Bar downstairs was inconveniently placed. 5. Location is too far from Michigan in my opinion. GOOD: 1. Ummmmmmmm. Nice style?"

"I was really pleased with most aspects of the hotel. Our room was on the 27th floor of 33, which gave us a great view. There was even a telescope by the elevator bank so we could look out over Lake Michigan and the Navy Pier while we waited. The beds were very comfortable, the Bliss amenities in the bathroom were great (but they only provided one bathrobe), the ambiance was hip and trendy, and the location couldn't be beat. I ordered breakfast from room service, and while it arrived quickly, it certainly wasn't worth the price. There were coffee shops, convenience stores, clubs, restaurants, and shopping all within walking distance, and we never had to wait more than a minute for a cab. As two 20-something females, we loved the place and certainly would recommend it to others."

The shuttle service "Acura" is a joke - hours are useless for tourists and it does not include return service. The staff is very slow to respond to requests. The pool is a lap pool only. The W caters to the young, beautiful, and think they are rich crowd. If you think you are or want to be - stay here."

Other people we were meeting checked in and got King Beds, so basically, they are full of it. Four Seasons is way better."

For a regular can of Coke was $4.00 and $6.00 for bottled water (not a gallon). I do not care if was in the middle of the dessert I am not going to spend $6.00 for bottled water. There was a 7eleven a block away and stocked up on snacks. So it wasn't a big deal."

I was checking in at night and the music in the lobbybardisco was so loud I could hardly hear the front desk staff. Because it was SAT night, people were all drunk in the elevators and loud. The bedroom is ok, but the bed too high and a bit too hard. Then the shower has no door, so half of your body is feeling cold all the time you're in the shower. For $100 less, I wouldn't mind, but not at the rate I paid."

"We only stayed for one night, but it was extremely pleasant. The staff at the front desk made us feel welcome from the moment we arrived. The beds were very comfortable. Room was a bit on the small side...certainly did not seem like 520 sq. feet. Also, why in the world would they have shutters that open to the bathroom is anybody's guess. We thought that was the worst feature of the hotel room. One would think that privacy in the bathroom would be the way it is designed. The 24 hour fitness center on the 7th floor was outstanding. Modern aerobic equipment and state of the art exercise machines. Free granny smith apples and filtered water, all you can drink and towels. Our room included valet parking which was very convenient. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants luxury at a very reasonable price."

If you are staying with someone else in the room and are the least bit timid about noises or odors, you may want to ask the front desk if other options are available. Other than that, the hotel was great! The kids loved it and the weekend was good!"

"This is a hotel geared to the younger crowd. I'm 40 and there were just a few guests older than me. I paid a very fair rate for a hotel in a major city. The hotel has a great location and I had a room with a lake view ("Spectacular Room"). The decor is nice, it has a nice plasma TV, the view was nice. The room was clean. The best part of the hotel is its location which is only an 8-10 minute walk to all the attractions on Michagan Blvd or the Navy Pier. They also have a free shuttle that will take you anywhere within 5-miles. I found that that saved a lot of cab fare. The negatives are that you can hear people when they are walkingtalking down the hallways (although this usually only happened during hours when you would expect people to be awake. I was at the hotel for 5 nights and it only happened a few tiems.) I was never awakened in the middle of the night. The curtain shades don't do a great job of keeping out the light and I found that it a little annoying in the morning when the sun came in through the sides of the "Block-out" blinds. I had this problem even when I pulled the other blinds down as well. The open shutter's from the bathroom to the bedroom are fine if you are alone as I am on this trip; however, would be a little uncomfortable if you are staying with someone as there is little privacy afforded when the shutters are closed. The staff treat you more as a number than as a guest. They are very distant. All in all, you get what you pay for. I got a very reasonable rate and feel that I got a good value for what I paid. If you are looking for a high end hotel this is not the place for you. If you are looking for decent decor, great location and clean room then you should be happy here."

My only issue is that since it's a little off the beaten path, I had to wait a little longer than normal for a cab (they weren't lined up outside). And although I have read reviews of this hotel where people said there is nothing to do or eat within walking distance, that is not true (must be old reviews). "We are local Chicagoland residents and visited the hotel this past weekend for my 45th birthday. Our first impression was good. Prompt staff at the valet service, an employee wiping the lobby floor (it was a wet, snowy weekend) 2 young ladies at the front desk. Upon our approach we were promptly tended to. The young lady was able to upgrade us to a higher floor after we inquired about it, and we were very grateful, but it just seemed like it was "part of her job", no warm fuzzies to expect there. The 4 modern elevators are very fast and you have to enter your room key card to get to your floor, which is a nice security measure. The hallways I would classify as somewhat dark, but modern. Our first impression of our room was comfy modern. After unpacking though, the toiletries could've been of higher quality and the vanity cabinet was very worn. The bathroom tiles in our room were very dark, almost black with the dark gray carpet in the room, made it all feel very dingy. We did have a nice flat screen HDTV, ipod station hardwire connection for internet, but the pine shutters, bamboo shades and pine vanity really felt "older". The double beds had fluffy comforter perfect mattress, but hard sheets. Suggestion: Use the room darkening shades behind the bamboo shades! The reason we gave the location a 2 star is because even though the hotel is located close to Navy Pier (you can walk there in fair weather), there is no place within walking distance to get a cup of coffee pastry in the morning and the hotel did not offer any. You can get snacks in the lobby bar, but no full service sit-down restaurant. The city views were great at night from our room and from the top-floor bar, but the bar got very crowded, very quickly with stuffy 20 some-thing-ers. The bar staff was attentive and friendly. All in all, with the not so cheap rates, steep parking (with in out service), no full service restaurant, and mediocre decor service, I'm not sure we'll return. To to"

We paid extra for a water view as it was a birthday celebration, and were not disappointed. Actually, I think the other way would have had quite a spectacular city view as well. Black out curtains in the rooms, great BLISS bath products, comfy sheets, good free coffee in the lobby, a nice heated pool. Easy walk to shopping and public transport. Just a near perfect stay, and I would recommend this W to any traveller; I am a middle-aged woman business traveller, and this is definitely a place that aims to please the young traveller, and appeals to young professionals on the weekends in their bars and dining areas, but I felt right at home. And they welcome dogs-- I didn't have my dogs with me of course, but I enjoyed the company of other guests and their pets in the lobbies and bars, as well as the large "front porch"area with rockers. Just a warm, comfortable, friendly hotel with high levels of service. Rooms were clean, comfortable, and adequately sized for my needs."

"Excellent stay It is a bit far from the heart beat of the city. It was a $6 cab ride from the orange line if you need to make the trek out to MDW. Great service, great bed, great roomservice, and great views."

"Much like the highend denim line "Rich Skinny" - W Lakeshore is the hotel for everyone that everyone else loves to hate yet secretly wants to be - the young, skinny, trendy and rich crowd! The hotel embodies chic and exclusive from the moment your towncar pulls up all the way up to the swank Whiskey Bar on the 33rd Floor! The rooms are modest minimalist and while the bathrooms are small, the Bliss sinkside six more than makes up for it. Yes, there's not much privacy but this shouldn't bother the beautiful ones with an exhibitionist side, the reviewers who complained should've probably stayed home with their kids and their "puggle." W Lakeshore is truly a gem in Downtown Chicago, I went for a writing conference and was the envy of all the others who chose more obvious stays at the Hilton, etc. Hands down the best shower I've taken in awhile and their down pillowtop mattress rivals with my very own! I will most def return to W Lakeshore when I visit Chicago, of course when its warmer and my favorite travel companion, my bikini, can accompany me!"

"My boyfriend and I stayed here for New Year's Eve. The room was really tiny, it was really disappointing. Also, they had said that pool was going to be open when we made our reservations a couple weeks ago. To our surprise when we got there, they said that the pool was closed. So, we had to use the pool a couple doors down. It wasn't nice walking in the freezing cold. We went to the party they were holding in the lobby and most of the people were coming in off the streets...and they weren't the most classiest people. To say the least, we had a horrible time here and it wasn't worth all the money we spent here. The only thing that was nice about this place was the lobby."
