We stayed at the Hyatt in Jersey City two years ago. In was beautiful. We were directly across from Ground Zero-we walked outside and caught the train into the city. We saved a lot of money! --> In response to: can anyone recommend a decent reasonably priced hotel in NYC?

Stayed at this hotel last holiday season for 3 nights. It was a pleasurable experience. Lovely staff at front desk, great service overall and the views are breathtaking from the rooms and lobby. I recommend staying on the second floor, or lowest floor possible for having the best view. It feels like your on a cruise, since your so close to the water....

The rooms were great. the only thing that bothered me was the lobby smelled a little musty like the carpets had been cleaned with a dirty dog. the rooms did not have that smell though, everything else was great. parking was a little outrageous better to not have a car there anyway."

"On three separate occasions, hotel staff had the opportunity to tell us that breakfast was not included with our room. We asked at the desk for the location of breakfast, we mentioned it to the hostess that we were looking for the breakfast included with our room, and once we were seated, we talked about it again with the waitress. So we proceeded to eat from the cold breakfast bar - which was truly delicious. Once we had finished eating, the restaurant manager came and told us it was not included in our room cost. The bill for 5 of us to eat a cold breakfast was $120 with tip. Yes, one hundred and twenty dollars. I asked at the front desk when we checked out if anything could be taken off our bill since the staff had 3 opportunities to keep us from incurring an unexpected $120 expense. I received a very cold no. And now I will never stay at a Hyatt again and this will be a shining example of "Poor Customer Service" to my students. We will discuss for years to come how Hyatt could have taken $25 dollars off the bill and made me a happy customer instead of one who uses them as the shining poor example of how not to serve your customers."

"If you plan on going into the city and don't want to drive in, this is a great alternative. The station is VERY close and the hotel staff was very helpful giving directions and instructions on how to get around. There are some restaurants within a couple of blocks if you don't want to eat at the hotel. Although not mentioned with the hotel information, there is self-parking 1 block away, but the hotel staff won't tell you that. They tell you you have to valet. The only bad thing - 2 things: A)the pool and fitness center are on this floor and there was a ballroom at the end. We were in the middle, so we didn't hear everything, but we did hear quite a bit of commotion for the setup of the ballroom for a reception. B)You could hear the hotel's HVAC system going off and on through out the night. I'd stay here again, but I would request a room that is not on the 1st floor."

The staff where very friendly and professional. Our room location was tops with a stunning view of the city! The only downfall to this room was the cheese puffs found in the couch and no microwave which is always a plus when traveling with little ones."

"I reserved this hotel for the location next to the PATH train to the World Trade Center area in NY very convenient. Though comfortable and a nice hotel, all of that is worth nothing when you're left sleeping on the floor. I confirmed my reservation a couple of days in advanced, double beds and non-smoking, but when I got there I was told they were out of double beds and any other room types. Being a holiday weekend there were no other availabilities in hotels nearby with all the amenities I carefully selected for my trip and had made plans with. The hotels answer was "we confirmed your reservation but do not guarantee the room type. So even though you pay a specific price for a room as listed on the web, you can be given one that does not meet your needs. That night they oversold 30 double-bed rooms, so multiple visitors were left to cope without a choice. All rollaway beds had been given out plus there were no other rooms left in the entire hotel. The Manager that night was nice enough to send a couple of water bottles and extra blankets and pillows at my request, even though I had to remind them twice about it. In addition, the manager approve a discount on the room rate which Im still trying to get back since Hotels.com had already charged my account. This major inconvenience could have been avoided if the hotel wasnt greedy and didnt shuffle their guests at the hotels convenience, instead honor the choice and price we paid for the rooms we selected prior to arrival. I still recommend this hotel because of the location, if you've been to NY and don't like wasting time finding a parking spot, this is the location you need. I don't wish this experience to anyone else so make sure you arrive early or speak to a manager before your arrival that can guarantee your room type. Other than that you should be set to go."

"Let me start out by saying that I wasn't expecting much out of my booking thru a website. But from the moment we arrived at the Hyatt Regency we knew that this was going to be a special stay!! It started with the concierge service, which was excellent - the gentlemen were so friendly and happy to help! We then went inside to check in and everyone was so very friendly! I was a little leery about having to give my credit card for "incidentals" but they advised that instead we could give a $50 cash deposit -which we did. We got to our room, we booked a King Sized smoking room, but when we got into the room there was a "no smoking" sign on the desk -so I called down to the front desk and spoke with Holly - she looked to see if there was anything that she can do to accommodate us - which she went above and beyond to do - not only did she hook us up with a smoking room - but it was a SUITE with a balcony that looked right onto the Hudson river and we could see the entire New York skyline from the Statue of Liberty all the way up to the Empire State building - AMAZING!! Holly and everyone else at this Hyatt are truly great and displayed their willingness to make sure we had a wonderful time during o9ur stay!!"
