"The hotel was cool and edgy contemporary but my room's AC did not work. I complained and 36 hours later was not remedied. Ever try to sleep on a hot NYC night without AC or a fan?"

"The room size was fine enough since I was staying only for 1 night - my only MAJOR complain was the AC wasn't working properly. I went directly to the front desk 2x (on different times) to say that the AC wasn't working. Someone would come up the room and it'll work for 30 minutes and die again. After my second attempt of telling them of the AC problem (and getting rude stares back - as if I do not know how to work an AC!!) I just slept through it with the window open. I would still recommend the hotel - but don't expect it anything more than lodging and toilet facilities."

"Event though it was tourist season, the hotel was still maintained and very clean. I stayed in a bunk bed with shared bathroom, and the bathrooms were so nice! The showers had a huge rain shower with jets coming out of the wall. The only down side is that the hallway is rather noisy, but the walls to other bedrooms were fine."

"This was my first time going to NYC with a budget in mind and this hotel fitted the bill. I have to warn you that this is not your ordinary hotel if you have been to a Marriott or Hilton. The rooms are smaller and most floors have shared bathrooms but I did not have a problem with the arrangement. The only problem I had was there was not an iron or board for your clothes in the room. The location is good since eateries are close but be prepare to do some walking. Most of the landmarks are maybe 15 to 30 minutes of walking. Overall, this hotel is for the people who want a good value for their money. The majority of people who I saw there were young and beautiful."

"If you and a friend are planning a trip to New York and you'd like to stay in Manhattan but you're on a tight budget, the Pod is perfect. However, you do get what you pay for. The bunk bed room was smaller than a college dorm, just enough room for the bunks, a little desk and a sink. Even the safe was small, maybe 4 inches deep at the most. The shared bathrooms were also tiny, but well kept and clean (just remember to bring a pair of shower shoes!). Definitely a hotel designed for young travelers, great if you don't mind conceding all the creature comforts of a full-service hotel. My personal suggestion is that you use the money you save by staying here to indulge yourself at the famous Smith Wollensky's steak house, which is only two blocks away!"

"Two blocks from the subway and within walking distance of some good restaurants a nice urban mini-park a few doors down and across the street. There is also a grocery store and fruit vendor around the corner. I stayed 5 nights in a single room w no bath I never found both of the bathrooms on my floor to be occupied at one time. A couple nights I had a tight schedule to get to a seminar so I showered before going to bed just in case. My only complaint (admittedly minor) was that the pillows were extremely thin and some of the towels were also. I asked at the front desk for another pillow to be put in my room and I was told I should come back later and ask again. Huh? I don't think the onus should have been put on the guest to have to stand in line and ask another time. However, I eventually got another one w little trouble in the afternoon when the front desk staff seems more friendlier. The biggest negative was the elevator system. 3 elevators (one inoperable all week) and one 2 separate controls. That means everyone would press both buttons and whenever your elevator came the elevator often stopped on multiple floors to find nobody there because they got on the other elevator. ugh. Aside from that, the Pod will be my 1st choice when i return to nyc. Also - I thought the hotel breakfast was overpriced and so-so in quality. I recommend going to PAX a block away for some decent more moderately priced breakfast fare. Thank you, thank you very much"

There was a wall mounted TV for each bed, so you could watch different shows if you wanted. Room was clean with nice decor. The shared baths gave me pause when I was booking it, but turned out to be clean and we never had to wait. There are many restaurants within walking distance and the hotel is centrally located making it easy to get pretty much anywhere in Manhattan. A great place for the money."

"I needed to book something quick, and this hotel was one of the cheapest on the list. The Queen Pod room was confortable and just what I needed. The in-room bathroom is miniscule, but sufficient. (Note: this hotel has other rooms without in-room bathrooms, take care when booking.) It might be awkward if you're sharing the room. Again, the bathroom is tiny. Tiny, tiny, tiny. The bed was very comfortable, and I slept like a baby. (I often have trouble sleeping.) The airconditioner was off when I arrived, so I set it to the coldest setting. When I returned that evening, the room was delightfully frigid! I love a room with great airconditioning! The staff was very friendly, and the bell captain kept my bag for an entire day for me with no issue. The hallways on the 8th floor were a little dark, I'm not sure if that's a trendy design thing or if there was a problem, I'd recommend they make it just a little brighter if it was on purpose. The hotel is mostly younger people, and many foreigners. I had neighbors who were noisy, but fortunately the walls are thick and couldn't really hear them when I was in my room (only when passing their room in the hallway). Worked for me! I'd recommend this room to anyone who needs basic lodging. I travel a lot for business and I don't need all the sillyness that many of these big hotel chains give you. I like quirky unique hotels, and this is one of them--a keeper in my book. (Just make sure you book a room with an in-room bathroom!)"

"My stay was very comfortable and I would certainly stay again. Don't be intimidated by the dark hallways the rooms are very bright and modern. The roof top garden was a bit of a dissapointment as there was a pile of junk stored there which took away from the ambience. Bathrooms are really not bad and there is a light in your room to let you know when they are available. Only fault of bathroom is they do not give you a shelf to put your belongings while you are in the shower, you also need to bring your own hand towel when just using the toilet facility as there are no paper towels. The only other downside was the fact that it is about 12 hour walk to Times Square or a $5.00 cab ride. However, it is only one block from the subway. All in all, it met my expectations, it was a bed to sleep in a clean place for a good price."

"DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! The Pod is way overpriced-even for nyc. When I went to check in, I stood at the front for about 7 minutes listening to the guy curse (literally dropping the f- bomb) and complain because a guest wanted to upgrade his room. All the while never even looked at me once or said I'll be right with you. Then the elevators were shutdown for maintenance but there was no sign up, so I waited for the elevator for about 10 mins before the front desk finally said " yo, you gotta use the stairs". When I finally got to my floor 7 flights of stairs later, It literally smelled like dirty socks. The room was very small and stunk like socks too. Oh and don't expect to get an iron in a timely fashion either- took 30 mins. THIS HOTEL IS TERRIBLE! Oh and enjoy the smell of shared baths on each floor."

The room was clean and really comfortable and has an amazing service. In getting the bunk bed we had to have a share bathroom with the rest of the people on our floor but the bathroom is very nice and clean as always. If you do get the bathroom, make sure you bring some slippers. They could improve in some maintenance like lighting and our door but no major upset. The Location: The one that sold me is the beautiful rooftop. My friend and I ate pizza at night and just saw the beautiful city lights. This place is also good because of the metro system so close by in walking distance. What is near the location in walking distance is major shopping, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and Rocker feller Building The surrounding are clean and really great people. "The Pod Hotel lived up to its promise - small, hip, good location, and great value. It's close to several subway stops and right in midtown east. Great places to eat of all prices - best was the in-house restaurant on the back patio. Staff was friendly and efficient. The room was, as promised, small but very well laid out and comfortable, even including little luxuries. Definitely will stay here again."

"to be honest im not sure i would want to spend more than one night their due to the size especially if there were activities that I needed to perform in the room. However for a one night visit to the city it was an experience of efficiency. As small as the room was it was extremely well designed to maximize comfort and convenience. Numerous hallway bathrooms were clean and private; no waiting involved. The location was excellent and provided numerous sourfces of entertainment."

"My husband and I spent five days in NYC to see art. We loved the Pod and can't imagine staying at any other hotel. The proximity to two lines got us everywhere we needed to go. For Catholics, St. Patrick's is steps away, and has service seven times daily. If you want to go to a Yankees game, which my husband did on the spur of the moment, the subway takes you right there. The rooftop at the Pod was the only disappointment, and you can't take drinks from the Pod lounge up there in glasses, so we had a drink in the Pod courtyard. We loved the restaurant at the Pod, and had breakfast there every morning (poached egg, salmon plat, yogurt with fresh fruit) - reasonably priced, kind waitstaff, and a nice place to get oriented at the outset of the day. Jamison's, an Irish pub around the corner on 2nd ave, was a great place for Boddington's on tap."

"Immaculately clean, friendly and helpful staff, tiny but more-than-adequate room with comfortable bed, small but servicable bathroom and generally a great hotel in a terrific neighborhood and a fantastic value."

"The Pod lives up to its reputation for cool, with vibrant colors and modern decor, friendly staff. I was pleased with the outdoor terrace and cafe, perfect for a late evening drink and breakfast on a beautiful summer morning. The room was compact, but defficiently laid out so it did not feel cramped (I had a single with queen bed and bathroom to myself). The bathroom was cleverly designed to fit in all the necessary conveniences in the smallest space I have ever seen, all sleek, clean and very shipboard. It would probably have been claustraphobic for two people to share, but was fine for one."
