Yes, It's beautiful....You must go there!!! The rooms are huge and if you can get a back room that faced the back of the Alamo do. I love the old rustic hotels.......its gorgeous inside. We stayed there during Hurricane Ike.

I like the Tropicana where we stayed for Wedding. The River walk has now been completed that far. I drove by the Crockett but I don't know how it is. SA has a great website for things to do there.

"We had a wonderful time at your hotel - middle of last month. Our friend Mr. Pruitt booked the room for us, and even though it was quite a walk to the fun part of the Riverwalk, it was still worth being there. The highlight of our stay was our breakfast - waited on by Mr. Bo Parramore - who was absolutely delightful to us. It was amazing how he could 'juggle' friendliness with professionalism, and fun with excellent service. He certainly was the main attraction there, and we are profoundly honored that we met this 'unique' man. You need to hold on to that guy - he is definitely an 'attraction'. We have already told friends all about him, and your hotel, and a lot have already visited and more are intending to visit. If we ever come back to San Antonio, then we shall go out of our way to stay at your hotel. Well done - and you might want to get Mr. Parramore a job 'training' others how to make visitors 'special' - like he does. We have been all over the world traveling, and we can honestly say that even tho' the star rating of a hotel is important, we think the 'people' are much more important. Please pass on our thanks to Mr. Parramore. Kindest regards to all at El Tropicana, Kath and Alan Frost (guests of Pruitt)"

"We stayed here over Easter. Disappointed that the pool wasn't open (didn't see the online trvel website note that it would be closed), but they did fill it on Friday afternoon, and continued all thru Saturday. NOT heated, so girls weren't in more than their toes, which was disappointing because living in PA we were looking forward to some swim time in TX. The hotel is away from the hustle and bustle, if that's what you're looking for. The RiverWalk proper is right across the street and a good 15 minute hike until you reach a restaurant, but also nice if you just want to take a walk and not constantly running into people. Our room was half-way down a very long hallway, right in the middle of the 2 sets of elevators, facing the pool. We had 2 double beds, which were very comfortable. I have a horrible time sleeping away from home, but not this trip! The room was large enough for 4, including 2 teen girls. Very quiet and sound-proof. Bathroom is small and little room to sit anything on the small shelf behind the toilet. There is a nice ledge in the tub area for shampoos, etc. Big, fluffy towels. Remote control for the airheat, which was great. Staff is amazingly friendly and helpful, even as you're just passing thru, wanting to know if you need anything or any help. We had the breakfast buffet one morning. A little much I thought at $11.95person, especially for what was offered. For $9.95 you could have the continental buffet, which only omitted the eggs, baconsausage and melons. But it was convenient and our server, Bo, was great! Dislikes: what I find in most, not enough outlets! paying to park, no frig, no microwave."

"This hotel is barely near the river (river or puddle, you be the judge). You could walk but it is almost a mile from the river center. The Trolley is the Blue route which is a very odd route and often slow and has the most inconvenient time for all the trolleys. I went to a conference there and though I paid way to much (with the conference discount) I hope the normal rate was not too much more. The decor was modern but the room was very small. The bathroom was very small as well with very little counter space and very poor water pressure. The worst thing was the parking! There was plenty available but it cost money to park, since this place is far from the river walk I don't understand why is cost money. The parking garage is very small with only one lane to go in and out. (in and out in one single lane, felt dangerous). Very poor parking arrangements to actually cost you money. Staff was pleasant. I would not recommend this hotel."

"I was in town with my Best Friend and our Families for the New Years Eve Festivities. The hotel was booked by my best friend who had never stayed at the hotel before. I did go online and read the reviews about the hotel and I was concerned with what I read.I told my friend about the reviews and we decided to see for ourselves. We are both Executive Chefs and we are very picky when it comes to customer service. When we arrived we needed a small refrigerator delivered to the room and the remote control for the air conditioner was missing. Both were delivered within minutes. The Front Desk Staff were Amazing, Helpful and courteous. The Bar tenders were fast,Friendly and made sure we were never out of drinks.Everyone made us feel right at home.Isnt that exactly what you want when you are looking for a Hotel? Yes, the place looks like it is out of the Seventies and I was expecting look-alikes of Sammy Davis or Dean Martin to pop out. For me that is just part of the coolness of the Place. If you are looking for fake pomp and Grandure than stay somewhere else. El Tropicano is where I will stay again. Yes the section of the river walk next to the hotel could be better but is that the fault of the Hotel? I think not. P.S. we did not see one drug addict or prostitute in the front of the Hotel as stated in another review. Loved it!,Loved it!, Loved it!."

"Older hotel, but very clean, interesting decor and layout. On the far end of the Riverwalk closer to the Alamo, but not close to the usual Riverwalk activities - walkable if you have the time and energy. A bus system can also get you close to just about anywhere you want to go. Tower rooms are very small and you can't control the temperature. We moved to another room not in the tower (also bigger) with its own thermostat and COLD AC. Our second room was a LONG way from the elevator. You could take the stairwells down for a short-cut, but couldn't return through the stairwells to get back up (locked) and had to go all the way around. They gave us a coupon for $20 off breakfast per night and the buffet was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Outdoor "Heated" pool wasn't warm enough in December. My 13-year old son jumped in and lasted about 5 minutes. On-site parking was free and there was a parking attendant."

"I agree with the previous review. They advertise riverwalk views, but all i got was the nasty ditch view with the same waterpump. Lousy service, creepy maids. A maid knocked at my door that couldnt talk. She made clicking noises. They hire some weirdos here. Also, the parking is a joke. I scraped my wheel trying to manuever aroud a very very narrow area in front of the hotel. The people at the front desk are a bunch of flunkies that have comprehension problems. I do have to say the presidential suite was nice, but had a broken air conditioner. I called to get it fixed, never happened. If you are considering this junkie hellhole, please reconsider. This place is a royal dump. The lobby looks nice, but dont be fooled. They need to call this a MOTEL not hotel!!!"

"They must have spent all of their money on the lobby and caring for the animals. The rooms were not nice, do not be fooled by the beautiful pictures on the website, the rooms do not look anything like that. We were told we had a riverfront view but what we really had was a dried up ditch with a water pump, very disappointing because we had this planned for months and drove 9 hrs to get there. The room was so damp and sticky that all of our papers, pillows and sheets felt wet, I think it was from running the air. The ice machines (all of them) were broken, and when we called for ice a guy came with a bag of ice and then stood and waited for a tip. We called the desk to ask if they had a microwave we could use and they said it would be $10 to use it and they were not kidding! The toilet is practically on the floor so if you are not in excellent shape this may be a difficult task for you. The parking lot is not big enough and if you come in at the wrong time you have to drive up a tiny one way parking deck honking your horn in case someone is coming around the corner. There is no valet parking, although they said there was, every time we pulled up, no one came out, the Tiki bar is not really a tikki bar, just a dull lounge at the front of the lobby. There are no extras here, you do not get anything free....no breakfast...no ice...nothing, oh I take that back you get a newspaper that gets soggy in your room. When I complained to management they did give me a slight discount (not enough) but treated me like I was stupid...saying "this is how a high end hotel is"...Sorry, but this is NOT a high end hotel. If only I would have listened to the reviews...do not make the same mistake I did...I was fooled by the website...take my advice and book your stay at a NICE hotel."

"The location of the Hotel was a little missleading, stated on the Riverwalk, but outside this Hotel there were construction workers extending the Riverwalk past our Hotel, to reach the attractions of the Riverwalk we had a 3 mile walk, and in the rain this was not pleasent on our way to dinner.. The shower did not offer HOT water available at any time, only warm water.. Did not offer many brouchers on local events, most Hotels we've stayed at, World wide, offer discount vouchers to events and restaurants in the area to help vacationers be aware of what is available in the area... Thanks."

"Thought the price was higher than it should've been for the surrounding area; in a quiet, non-commercial neighborhood. The hotel is located at the far end of the riverwalk where the 'river' ended and present construction being done to extend the riverwalk just outside, and while it is right on the line for the local transportation, (river taxi, streetcar, bus and taxi) it was at least a 30 minute walk to the heart of the Riverwalk District with restaurants and shops. I loved the new inside of the hotel; very retro and tropical feeling with bright colors and sparkling floors. The toucans, Lucy and Ricky, the tortoise and iguanas were a delight to watch as they teased each other and during feeding time with their keeper. The staff bent over backwards for us; wonderfully friendly and accomodating. A few outstanding people; Maria, banquets; Billy, bartender; and the front desk staff, bellmen and managers. The conference room areas were comfortable and the hotel accomodated our group very well."
